What are participants and researchers agreeing to when they consent having data archived what do imagine the future life of their be? In this paper, we reflect on a project that deliberately started rather than ended with archive. The Everyday Childhoods invited children families take part in creation an open access public archive documenting everyday childhoods using range multimedia data. Families were into archive, encouraged different kinds secondary use speak directly user through short films postcards. This paper raises questions concerning place disciplinary traditions; roles researcher archivist safekeeping, gatekeeping caring for collections; qualitative longitudinal research as site innovation within new landscape.
